“Do you want to do something special for Mother’s Day?,” Andrew asked me as I was throwing my hair into a ponytail, gearing up for my first training run for our Colorado Springs 30K with Crazy Amy this summer.
I poked my head out of the bathroom. I did have a very fun day planned indeed for myself.
“Uh, I AM doing something special tomorrow. The Hilton Sandestin.”
“That’s right. Are you SURE you don’t want us to join you and keep you company?”
Hmmm, I thought to myself. I knew my husband was joking but I also didn’t want to seem too overly excited about my plans—an entire 24 hours by myself at an upscale resort on the beach.
I paused a beat.
“That’s ok, honey. Someone should stay here for the kids.”
Good cover I thought. Legitimate reason why I should go over to Sandestin alone.
As a busy working parent, I relish my time alone. After all, we need to recharge our own batteries once in a while before we can effectively give ourselves to others, whether that’s family, friends or even clients.
So, let me ask you, “What are YOU doing today to recharge YOUR batteries so you can better serve the loved ones in your life?”
Well, time for me to skedaddle. My massage is in an hour and I think I’ll treat myself to an early mimosa while I’m at the spa.
Don’t expect a return phone call or email from me today. Yesterday and this morning is all about me!
