“You must be so happy to have Jill home for Spring Break,” a client commented last week.

“Well, not really,” I replied. “I’ve seen her once briefly and nary a call or text since.”

At least when she’s at school, she usually texts or calls me daily on her way to class. A photo of her and her friends, an email or something.

But last week? Zilch, nada, nothin’.

Crickets.

I get it. She’s with her friends (eleven on them from college plus catching up with high school friends) but it still stings for dear ole’ mom.

Reminds me of the vintage (as I get older, I prefer the word “vintage” to “old” ha ha) Harry Chapin song, “Cat’s in the Cradle.”

“And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

When you coming home, son?

I don’t know when

But we’ll get together then

You know we’ll have a good time then”

My son, on the other hand, will be a captive audience later this week when we embark on our college road trip 2.0. Three colleges, 1,300 miles, and 22 hours in the car in four days.

Drew can’t ignore me for four days, right? I may be underestimating him. He is a teenage boy after all.

Jill did redeem herself the night before she left by stopping by the house to give me a hug, thank us, and say good-bye. Even my son came out of his room when he heard Jill and her friends come in. Guess he did miss her after all.

It’s inevitable. Kids grow up and they (at least think they) outgrow their parents.

This special offer expires Friday, March 23, 2018! If you haven’t updated or even started planning your estate, there’s no better time to start than now. Let’s keep the gals at the office busy while I’m out of town for a few days. Anyone who calls the office to schedule their Family Succession Strategy Session this week (just get the consultation on the books for a future date) may reserve it for a discounted $97 reservation fee. But YOU MUST MENTION THIS BLOG POST FOR THE DISCOUNT. 3-2-1-Go!
