The airport went completely dark as I stood in line waiting for the ticket agent to call my boarding zone.
The power went out across the airport and we were thrust into a complete blackout for ten seconds before the backup generators turned the emergency lights back on.
Geez, that was weird. Turns out a nearby motor vehicle accident cut a power line servicing the airport.
The good news was that enough lights were on that I could navigate my way to the restroom.
The bad news was that the Delta computers were down and no boarding could take place.
I had a one hour layover in Atlanta which was not a lot of time to make my connecting flight to Pensacola.
I started zipping through my options in my head if my originating flight was delayed and I missed my connection. After all, it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B in advance in case things do not go according to plan.
So too you should have a Plan B and maybe even a Plan C when you plan your estate. A well-crafted Family Succession Plan will account for common (and even not so common) contingencies because our lives rarely go according to our best laid plans.
Then, even with our Plan B, the prudent planner will revisit their plan every 3-5 years, or whenever they have a major life event, to ensure that their plan still fulfills their desires and complies with current State and Federal law.
Our Florida Family Succession Strategy Sessions are designed to help you custom craft an original Family Succession Plan for your family or update your existing plan to meet your family’s changing needs. You can schedule yours right here.
Just as I was opening my iPad to check into later flights to Pensacola, full power was restored to the airport. After a brief rebooting of the Delta computers, we quickly began the boarding process and were on our way only thirty minutes behind schedule.
A quick sprint through the Atlanta airport to make it to my next departure terminal (great training for my next 5K race which is this Saturday!) and I was headed home again to Pensacola. Hallelujah!
