“I saw this girl ahead of me and I just set my sights on her, thought to myself that she was my prey, and I ran her down like I was a gazelle, and passed her at mile three.”
We laughed listening to our running teammate, Crazy Lauren, regale us with her tales from the trail during our Blackwater 50K Trail race on Saturday.
Our anchor runner, Crazy Becca, who ran the last leg of our relay immediately told us when she crossed the finish line that she passed two runners on her loop of the race course!
Team My Pink Lawyer, a small group of six women runners, finished our first trail relay race this weekend (we gave teammate Amanda a pass since she recently had a baby) and we kicked butt.
Crazy Amy started us out strong as the first runner finishing her leg in 3rd place behind two men.
We ended the race placing 2nd place out of nine relay teams and were the first all women team to finish.
My son was astonished to learn we even placed ahead of some all male teams. And I quote, “Geez, that’s embarrassing!”
Five teammates each ran a 10K (6.36 mile) loop in Blackwater State Forest around Bear Lake. I think everyone PR’d (set a personal running record) on the trail. I know I personally ran my loop with an average of 9:34 minute miles which is faster than I run on the road!
Not only are each of us very competitive (though we all claim not to be) but when you are running in a relay (my first such race), no one wants to let their teammates down by running slowly. I know I personally dug deep and ran my little heart out.

I must say that the Blackwater 50K relay was one of the funnest races I’ve ever participated in and we will be back next year. No doubt with a target on our backs by the other relay teams!
