“Finally found a race that might actually be a challenge for Kristen! Make sure you watch long enough to see some of the bloody finishers!,” read the group text yesterday from my friend, Crazy Amy, sent to Crazy Jessica and me.
The text included a link to the Seward’s Mount Marathon Race, a straight up and down ascent and descent on a mountain, held each July 4th in Seward, Alaska. Billed as one of the toughest 5K races on the planet, world class professional ultra racers and crazy locals alike compete in this insane race.
In case you’re just tuning in, Crazy Amy, Crazy Jessica & CrazIER Kristen earned our nicknames as we trained for our first 50K Ultra trail race together late last year. Only crazy people train in freezing temps to run 31+ miles! Lots of painful body parts and lots of weekend time on the trails in the North end of the county culminated in tears, vows to never do THAT again, a little vomit (I won’t name names!), and lots of bragging rights.
As with child birth, the three Crazy Amigas quickly forgot our aches and pains and promptly registered for even more ultra destination races. Crazy Amy and I leave in a few weeks for Colorado Springs for the Pikes Peak Ultra. (Ok, so we chickened out a bit and backed down our race to the 30K—not technically an ultra distance—from the 50K distance figuring the altitude might knock us on our ass.)
Then, much to our mutual surprise, our third crazy friend, Crazy Jessica, spearheaded our registration for the Antelope Canyon 55K race in March. Little did any of us realize at the time of registering that 80% of the course will be in the sand!
Oh, but I love a good challenge. I suppose you can say that I am passionate about the pursuit.
The challenge is probably why I love working closely with clients to help them craft and build Kick-Butt Family Succession Plans (maybe I should trademark that name—“Kick Butt Family Succession Plans” Ha!).
It’s a fun challenge to arrange all of the pieces of a client’s puzzle together (titling of assets, beneficiary designations, use of Wills, Trusts, etc.) to achieve both a lifetime and post-death outcome that saves their loved ones tons of time, money and headaches.
Yes, it’s a challenge and my brain hurts some days as I meticulously craft each plan but the end result is soooo worth it. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a plan come together and having it work just the way it should when it is needed for families.

Although I did not (yet) register for the Seward’s Mount Marathon Race, I will admit that my interest is piqued. My crazy compadres better watch out!
