Swifties, Millennials, and Football Fans Unite for Super Bowl Sunday

Amanda Lynch Elliott is a native of Pensacola and an attorney with My Pink Lawyer®. Amanda and her husband are parents of two young daughters. Amanda enjoys running, yoga and paddle boarding, and has a twin sister.

Excited squeals and screams of varying pitches filled my living room – ranging from my 8-year-old niece and 5-year-old daughter to my husband, brother-in-law, and dad.

It is not every day that so many of my family members are excited about the same event.

But when you combine the Super Bowl with one of the most popular female musicians – and throw in a little early 2000s rap for good measure – you quite literally have something for almost everyone.

IMG_0415The younger ones in the room figured out that most every time Kelce did anything the camera would shift to Taylor. So, they were fixated on number 87 for signs of movement.

They spent the time when Kelce/Swift wasn’t on the screen to practice their dance moves.

Not huge football fans, my sister and I were just there for the snacks and halftime show… and a couple of the commercials.

The girls had high hopes that Taylor would get on stage with Usher at halftime; although I was admittedly not disappointed in the least that she didn’t. (I hear her songs often enough!)

My sister and I excitedly named the surprise artists that emerged alongside Usher – first Alicia Keys, then Ludacris, Lil John, H.E.R., will.i.am, and Jermaine Dupri.

It was basically a live version of our early-2000s playlist.

Our kids were impressed by our ability to sing many of the songs they performed. We spared them most of the dance moves, for which they should only be so grateful.

We laughed as we reminisced about listening to Usher songs in the car with our high school boyfriends some 20+ years ago.

Who knew the halftime show would take us on a walk down memory lane? And how the heck is Usher 48 years old (with abs like that, no less!)?!

Alicia Keys, as always, stole the show. Our girls who love to sing their own renditions of “This Girl is on Fire” were absolutely enthralled.

The guys remained engrossed in the game, taking breaks only to check the grill or grab a snack. Overtime nearly sent them into a full-on frenzy.

When I say that this year’s Superbowl appealed to most everyone, I genuinely mean it. Spanning so many generations and interests is hard to accomplish but they pulled it off.

Similarly, My Pink Lawyer appeals to people of varying ages, genders, and more, too!
