Summer Is Time To Enjoy Family–And Plan For Their Future

Family SummerSummer is here and life is so much more relaxed in our home. With school out, I don’t have to pack lunches, ensure the kids arrive to school on time or that homework is done, or play chauffeur for the kids’ after-school activities.

Not only is summer more relaxing than the school year but it’s also conducive to spending time LOTS OF TIME together as a family whether it’s on the boat, the beach or vacation road trips.

One evening recently, my daughter and I calculated how much time we’ve recently spent together in the car on three separate college road trips—over 30 hours! Amazingly, she and I laughed and talked the entire time and she still actually seems to like me.

Enjoying my family so much reminds me personally that the Estate Planning that we do as parents is not primarily for or about us at all.

We PLAN because, as responsible parents, we owe it to our kids.

We PLAN because we don’t want to create a MESS for our loved ones when we’re gone.

We PLAN because we love our kids and want to ensure they continue to be raised by the people we know will best fill our shoes if something happens to us.

In a nutshell, we PLAN because we LOVE our families.

After all, it’s our families that will have to live with the decisions we chose to make, or not make, for their benefit when we had the opportunity to do so.

We all know time is short. Your children will be out of your house (hopefully!) before you know it.

So make it a priority to spend time with your family now while you have the opportunity to do so.

And make the time to PLAN for your loved ones a priority too. It’s one of the best ways to show your family how much you love them when you’re no longer here to tell them yourself.
