After spending 9 months backpacking across Europe, I have become more “go with the flow” than ever before. This wasn’t intentional, but with every country having a different pace of life (siesta culture in Spain for example!), sleeping in dorm hostels, and public transportation issues, I didn’t have much of a choice.
And only a few days before returning to Colorado for a two-month hiatus from backpacking, my patience was tested in a big way.
My flight home was cancelled.
More specifically, the first leg of my trip home was cancelled. I was supposed to fly from Barcelona to Munich with Lufthansa, then Munich to Denver on United.
I found this out in the middle of a walking tour on a Sunday regarding my return flight home scheduled for Wednesday. It was cancelled because ALL of Lufthansa’s flight attendants were going on strike that Tuesday and Wednesday.
The person I was nine months ago would have had a heart attack reading this news, but I was now mentally prepared for anything thrown my way!
After chatting with a United agent about the dilemma, the only feasible option was to be rebooked on a flight home two days early. If you’re keeping track here, I found this out on a Sunday and my original flight was on a Wednesday… meaning I’d be leaving Europe in less than 24 hours!
Cue a situation that would have caused previous Jill to panic… and okay, present-day Jill was a little panicked too.
It seems like an insignificant amount of time in the grand scheme of nine months, but it was a tougher pill to swallow than I expected.
I soaked in my last night abroad with my backpacking buddy Abby, and off I went on Monday morning to head back home.
I had to work through a lot of stressful situations while traveling, and if I was solo traveling, I had to carry a lot of the stress on my own. Luckily, not all stressful situations in life must be managed by yourself.
Estate planning can be stressful, but our attorneys at My Pink Lawyer® are here to navigate the process with you while alleviating any stress you may experience.
We hear of individuals going through online services to create an estate plan, but this simply does not cut it. Online services use standardized forms and questionnaires, which will not always apply to a specific situation. For individuals with a more complex estate, an attorney’s expertise becomes invaluable for comprehensive planning. Estate planning is governed by state laws, which are constantly evolving. Online forms are generalized, but an attorney at My Pink Lawyer® will be up to date on Florida’s latest regulations to ensure your documents are fully compliant and effective.
So don’t carry the stress on your own! Let My Pink Lawyer® take care of your estate planning, and you’ll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders knowing you’re in the best care. You can call 850-439-1191 or visit our website to get started.
As for me, the silver lining in my stressful travel situation was concocting a plan to surprise my boyfriend with my arrival two days earlier than planned. It was tough keeping the secret, but the look on his face when I walked through the front door was so worth it! Plus, Denver had the largest snowstorm of the season that week, so getting home early was a blessing in disguise.
And don’t worry, I’ll be back in Europe this summer. Hopefully I don’t encounter too many stressful situations until then.
