Getting Your Business Organized in 5 Easy Steps

Since it’s the beginning of a new year, it’s a good time to think about decluttering your busy, professional life from 2016 and getting organized to introduce yourself to 2017!

Here are five easy steps to get your business organized and on the right track.

Step 1: Eliminate Unnecessary Clutter this includes the old napkins, crumpled up pieces of paper, and everything else that’s been hogging your workspace. I don’t think you need an empty water bottle handy to get the job done! Get rid of everything you haven’t used in awhile, and if you only use it a few times a year, put it in your supply closet until you need it. Maybe those so-called “lost statements or documents” might show up again!

Step 2: Update Your Files Everyone knows they have that mysterious piece of paper that looks important, but they’re not sure where it goes. The best thing to do is make sure your files are updated every week so you know what files you are working on and can hopefully remember what client’s file that piece of paper belongs in. As a tip, make sure your files are always labeled so you know what you are looking for!

Step 3: Make a To-Do List Each week, or better yet, every night, make a list of everything you need to accomplish the next day. This can help you gather your thoughts, remind you about things you might’ve put on the backburner for too long, and help you get things done!

Step 4: Take Paper to Digital Don’t go searching for that one guy’s business card in your rolodex anymore! Transfer all your contacts to a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system online. Using a CRM system allows you access to phone numbers, emails, and addresses whether you are in the office or on a vacation you don’t want your clients to know about. Some even sync with your phone, so you’ll know who’s been calling you at 2am!

Step 5: Devote Time to Getting Organized The most important step of all, is often not always thought of. To help your business succeed, you must set aside time to eliminate, declutter, and organize your office. A clean office and pristine desk just might get you the sale!
