An Attorney’s Perspective on Florida Estate Planning Trends | My Pink Lawyer

My Husband Thinks He Married a Younger Woman!

“Ha, ha, that’s funny,” smiling at my birthday pie with the numbers “38” on them.

That’s sweet. My hubby is trying to make me feel better by buying candles a decade younger than I really am.

Jill still at college studying for her last final, I texted her a photo.

My mom called and I told her about the candles.

Andrew looked at me funny.

“Thirty-eight, right?”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah.”

“Honey, we’re the same age.”

“Geez. I was so worried about getting the number 8 candle that I wasn’t even thinking about the first number.” [Andrew had kept thinking that I was about to turn 49 instead of 48 and I had to keep correcting him!]

I guess we all get a little senile in our “old age,” eh? Ha!

As I predicted last week, my birthday plans were all they lived up to be. A little rolfing, a little shopping, a little reading and quiet reflection on the upcoming year.

Besides setting aside more time for myself in 2018, one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to simplify my life. This includes decluttering (mom, you listening? Ha ha), streamlining household expenses, and generally just organizing my life.

It’s funny how I help clients get organized with their Family Succession Planning but I sometimes let it run amok in my own life.

However, even though I help clients initially with their Estate Plans, I often find when I meet with them again for a review meeting a few years later, that their assets have changed or they don’t remember who their beneficiaries are, or their financial paperwork (including life insurance policies and retirement plans) is a mess.

And many clients have asked for a little extra “hands on” help from me to help them get their legal and financial paperwork organized.

Which is why I am soon launching our VIP program for qualified and interested clients who need or want that extra attention and assistance in ensuring that all of their beneficiaries are current, their paperwork is organized for themselves and their families, and who want easier and faster access to me.

I will soon begin charging very reasonable consultation fees, even for past clients, but for VIP members, free consultations will be included with their membership.

So, another year for me is officially in the books. Maybe next year my husband will have me turning 29!
