“Are you ready to go back to school?,” I asked my daughter.
“YES!” was the emphatic response.
Geez, she didn’t have to be so happy about it, I chuckled to myself.
Heck, I was the same way at her age. College brings the first taste of “freedom” without the financial responsibility for many of us (though I did the work study program throughout college as part of my financial aid package).
There was a moment a few days before Jill left that I was a little teary eyed thinking about how much fun it has been to have her home for almost a month. But seeing how ready she was to get back to her new friends and new life, my sadness quickly dissipated.
Our family is settling into our regular routine once again with only one child at home (though I didn’t see much of him during the holiday break) and the holiday craziness behind us.
It’s kind of quiet.
I guess you could say that Andrew and I are transitioning into the next phase of our life, the some-would-say “dreaded” Empty Nest Syndrome.
I’m not dreading it too much right now, however. Instead, I’m trying to stay busy to take my mind off of the empty house. 50K training helps.
Realizing my kids are both almost adults and pretty responsible so far, it will be time to revisit our estate plans soon since it’s been a few years since we’ve done so.
