“Are you here remininiscing?,” a lonely woman asked me from her barstool.

“Yes...how did you know?”

“You have that look on your face.”

Andrew and I returned to Harry’s Bar in Tuscaloosa Friday night before the Alabama - LSU game.

Harry’s was our old stomping ground our first year of law school.

A real dive bar. No windows, interior walls painted black. Just a a bar, a couple of tables, dartboards and pool tables.

We watched many Alabama games on tv at Harry’s.

I even won a pool tournament at Harry’s, earning mucho respect from Andrew. Granted, I kept advancing because the ringers I was playing kept scratching, but still...

“What’s your name?”

“I’m Sarah Kate. You’re here reminiscing. I’m here celebrating my 50th birthday. I never thought I would make it this long.”

No joke. That’s what she said. You can’t make this stuff up.

Sarah Kate went on to share how her husband of 29 years died 4 years ago. I did the math. She confirmed that she married at age 17 when her and her husband “were in heat.”

Again, you can’t make this stuff up!

I was happy to share that bit of time with Sarah Kate. She was fun to talk to and her stories made me laugh.

But it was also kind of sad.

SK had lived a hard life not looking to the future.

No planning. Living day to day to make ends meet.

I can’t imagine not having a future to look forward to.

Not having a future to plan for.

Not planning for my family’s future.

With no vision, the people will perish. Proverbs 29:18

I guess you could say that I’m in the Vision business.

***Once you have a vision for your family’s future, we can work together to design and implement a plan to carry out that vision.***

I doubt Sarah Kate has a Family Succession Plan in place.

She was just relieved that her son was meeting her at Harry’s to repay her the bail money she lent him last month. After all, the night was young.

Again, you can’t make this stuff up!
